How should you teach your child to divide?

Start by teaching your child the multiplication tables as soon as possible.

Set a target of learning all of them up to 12 x 12 by the end of Year 3.

Then explain to your child that dividing is simply a way of counting up in that number.

For example, 72 divided by 6 is 12 because 12 x 6 or 6 x 12 makes 72.

When you child has understood this concept start to teach them the bus stop method or short division.
